Nicole W. Sitaraman serves an an Assistant People’s Counsel at the Office of the People’s Counsel for the District of Columbia (DC OPC). She is the People’s Counsel’s chief advisor on renewable energy policy issues and is team leader of DC OPC’s Energy Efficiency and Sustainability division. Ms. Sitaraman represents District of Columbia ratepayers before the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia, Council of the District of Columbia, PJM Interconnection, as well as federal regulatory agencies. She was the principal coordinator of DC OPC’s first ever city-wide consumer education symposium last year – Horizons 2015: Uniting Energy, Technology and Consumers. Ms. Sitaraman currently serves as the coordinator of the agency’s Value of Solar study, as well as Chair of the Distributed Energy Resources Committee of the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates (NASUCA). Prior to working in utility consumer advocacy, Ms. Sitaraman served as a Senior Associate in a nationally-recognized civil and employee rights law firm where she represented numerous workers in race discrimination, sexual harassment, environmental and nuclear whistleblower retaliation cases. She holds a B.A. in English from Yale University and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
