John Sakers

John Sakers has over 29 years of industry experience including operations management and regulatory compliance and government relations roles. As the Director of Permitting, Compliance and Quality for First Solar’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Energy Services (Operations and Maintenance) businesses, John has assisted in the development, permitting and execution of nearly 8GW of projects in numerous countries, including some of the largest solar photovoltaic projects ever constructed and placed into operation.

Mr. Sakers serves as resource to First Solar’s development, sales and government relations functions and frequently engages collaboratively with government agencies from the County level up to the U.S. Department of the Interior. Recent work has included co-developing a mathematical model and software tool that once adopted, will enable clear and reliable understanding of end of life decommissioning forecasted cost which can then be used by jurisdictional authorities to accurately and evenly determine surety requirements. Additionally, Mr. Sakers recently co-authored an article entitled “Best Practices in Responsible Land Use for Improving Biodiversity at a Utility-Scale Solar Facility,” published in the University of California’s “Case Studies in the Environment” journal. Mr. Sakers graduated from The University of Georgia and holds two Master’s degrees, both from Pepperdine University.
